I grew up in a small town in North Dakota. My upbringing taught me to appreciate the simple things in life – a common thread seen throughout my photographs. After working my way through college, I started a twenty-year career in television news. Then in 2002, I expanded beyond the newsroom to pursue other passions – one of them being photography. As a multiple-winner of Emmys and other television awards, it’s safe to say that I've seen more award-winning images than most. I’ve also been very fortunate to have learned from some of the best TV visual storytelling journalists in the business. They taught me the power of the picture – how it can leave a lasting impression and an emotional connection. Although I try to apply these lessons with each time I shoot, I often capture my best pictures when I least expect it. Many of the photos you are about to see were taken while waiting for a bus or a train – those times when I was just glancing around and said Ooh, look at that! I guess I take pictures for the same reasons you do – I want to remember a moment and I want to share something. I hope you enjoy them. |
